Visualizing water‐energy nexus landscapes

چکیده

Over the past decade, water-energy nexus (WEN) has emerged as a prominent framework with which to analyze and visualize interconnections between energy production, freshwater resources, hydrological cycle. The WEN is fundamentally geographic concept embedded in landscapes. analyses often include landscape visualizations, yet these are rarely conceptually rigorous; consequently, visual-representational dimensions of remain relatively weak. Our paper addresses this gap through meta-review 503 visualizations sourced from 336 scholarly articles. Based on analysis, we argue that depict complex landscapes technical systems, while eliding broader considerations multiscalar, spatiotemporal, hydrosocial water energy. In response limitations, offer an alternative approach visualizing draws upon parallel work geography cognate disciplines. concluding section paper, formulate set interdisciplinary recommendations guide production more theoretically-informed grounded concepts spatiality, temporality, hydrosociality. article categorized under: Engineering Water > Planning Human Methods Life Conservation, Management, Awareness

Decision landscapes: visualizing mouse-tracking data

Computerized paradigms have enabled gathering rich data on human behaviour, including information on motor execution of a decision, e.g. by tracking mouse cursor trajectories. These trajectories can reveal novel information about ongoing decision processes. As the number and complexity of mouse-tracking studies increase, more sophisticated methods are needed to analyse the decision trajectories...

Visualizing Restricted Landscapes of Phylogenetic Trees

We are designing tools to visualize very large sets of phylogenetic trees. Our tools give a three dimesional representation of treespace, with two dimensions representing the clustering of trees under multidimensional scaling, and the third dimension (the “height”) the score of the tree (i.e. parsimony or maximum likelihood score). The user can rotate the resulting distribution to get a sense o...

Hyperspace Geography: Visualizing Fitness Landscapes beyond 4D

Human perception is finely tuned to extract structure about the 4D world of time and space as well as properties such as color and texture. Developing intuitions about spatial structure beyond 4D requires exploiting other perceptual and cognitive abilities. One of the most natural ways to explore complex spaces is for a user to actively navigate through them, using local explorations and global...

LinMap: Visualizing Complexity Gradients in Evolutionary Landscapes

This article describes an interactive visualization tool, LinMap, for exploring the structure of complexity gradients in evolutionary landscapes. LinMap is a computationally efficient and intuitive tool for visualizing and exploring multidimensional parameter spaces. An artificial cell lineage model is presented that allows complexity to be quantified according to several different developmenta...

Visualizing forest landscapes using public data sources

Three-dimensional (3-D) visualizations of forest landscapes are quantitative ecological information-based techniques that can be used to visualize forest structure, dynamics, landscape transformations and regional plans. Visualizing forests and landscapes with limited ground observations are often the primary challenge for quality animations. Conducting stand-level field surveys over a large fo...
